Just in time for the 4th of July!

Today, my daughter wanted to bake something for a friend based on the 4th of July theme.  She decided on these M&M Oreo Cookie Bars and am I glad she did.

The great tasting butter rich cookie dough is super good, and then when you add the M&M Candies and the Oreo Thins, it will take a lot of willpower to stop at just one of these.  Plus this recipe is so easy to put together.  She had them in the oven in no time.

Yes, I think she made a good choice.  Loving these M&M Oreo Cookie Bars!  Glad she only left a couple here, or we may have had restraining issues.

Recipe adapted from Averie Cooks

M&M Oreo Cookie Bars

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 24 Oreo Thins, broken into pieces
  • 1/2 cup M&M milk chocolate candies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F, Line a 8 X 8 baking pan with aluminum foil, spray with cooking spray.
  2. Melt butter, let cool, pour into large mixing bowl
  3. Whisk in egg, sugar and vanilla until well blended.
  4. Stir in flour until just combined.
  5. Add Oreo Thins and M&M, stirring to combine.
  6. Bake for 18 to 21 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in a patch of the cookie dough, (not M&Ms, or the Oreo Thins) in the center, comes out clean. Do not overbake. Allow cookie bars to cool, at lest 90 minutes before cutting. Store in airtight container up to 1 week, or freeze up to 6 months.
