These “From Scratch” Buttermilk Pancakes are the best.  Fall is in the air!  Or at least it may be on the way. Hard to believe that the first day of school here in Maryland was a blazing 86 degrees.   I remember “back in the day” the first day of school would be a bright, sunny, and very cool sweater day.  Things have changed………

I also remember getting all decked out in new school clothes, new shoes, and you know the hair had to be just right.  Of course, to be fully charged and ready to start the new school year you needed to begin with a big  special breakfast.   Also, these “From Scratch” Buttermilk Pancakes filled your stomach so being hungry was not an issue for you to pay attention.

Nothing like  a plate of these homemade, hot, buttery, syrup smothered “From Scratch” Buttermilk Pancakes!  Who can resist the whiff coming from the kitchen of heavenly pancakes cooking up on the griddle?  These “From Scratch” Buttermilk Pancakes are light, fluffy and just plain old awesome.  In addition, they are so easy to put together.

“From Scratch” Buttermilk Pancakes

From Scratch Buttermilk Pancakes

  • Cook Time: 20m
  • Total Time: 30m


  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil


  1. In a small bowl, combine dry ingredients - flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar. Set aside. In medium bowl, whisk egg, add buttermilk until well combined. Add vanilla. Slowly add in the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix. Lastly add in the vegetable oil. Grease and heat a large pan or griddle. Pour batter onto hot pan or griddle. Flip pancakes when full of bubbles, and golden on both sides.
