Fish Tacos with Creamy Avocado Sauce are one of my favorite weeknight dinners to prepare.  These tacos come together so easily, and the creamy avocado sauce is  packed with so much flavor  that it is a must in taking this dish over the top good!

Typically, when I think of tacos, I envision beef, pork or chicken.  For some reason, fish never came to mind.  It wasn’t until recently that I had even heard of fish tacos.  Just something that I had not thought would be put together, however, I now know that I have missed out on this sensational combination.

First of all, you simply cannot go wrong with mixing a fresh avocado, with sour cream, and cilantro.  That in itself is the first hint that this will be good.  Add the chopped onion, freshly squeezed lime juice, and a little salt and you know you have a tasty combination.  Put all of that into the blender and end up with the most fabulous creamy avocado sauce to top off your Fish Tacos with Creamy Avocado Sauce!

Baked Cod, a mild, flaky, white fish is just perfect for these tacos.  Simply seasoned with salt, pepper, and Old Bay Seasoning it pairs well with the creamy avocado sauce, salsa, slaw, and cheese.

For the salsa, I picked up a container of the freshly made in the store, however, being the “love to try new recipes” person that I am, I do  plan to try this recipe one day.  (it seems easy enough, right?)  But meanwhile, the freshly made store bought worked fine.

Also, this Baja Black Beans, Corn and Rice from Kitchme, goes very well with these tacos.

Fish Tacos with Creamy Avocado Sauce

  • Prep Time: 15m

Creamy Avocado Sauce

  • 1 avocado, ripe
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup cilantro leaves, fresh
  • 1/4 cup yellow onion, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice

Fish Tacos

  • 1 1/2 pounds cod
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay Seasoning
  • salt and pepper, if desired
  • 12 flour or corn tortillas, taco size
  • 1 1/2 cups salsa, fresh or jarred
  • 1 cup shredded taco cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups packaged cole slaw mix(shredded green/purple cabbage and carrots)


  1. Place creamy avocado sauce ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth. Refrigerate
  2. Preheat oven to 350
  3. Sprinkle Old Bay Seasoning, and salt and pepper if desired evenly over cod. Place on baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes or until done, depending thickness. Fish should be flaky. Remove from oven, and cut into bite size pieces.
  4. Warm tortillas in microwave for 30 seconds.

To assemble:

  1. Add fish to each warmed tortilla. Top with salsa, creamy avocado sauce, cole slaw, and shredded cheese.
