I have no idea where this recipe originated because it has been around forever.

There are so many variations; ginger ale, root beer, Dr. Pepper, Root Beer; 1 can, 2 cans, and on and on.  For me, the hardest part was getting up early to get it started   With a little pre-planning, the night before, I got the crock pot out, added the Reynolds Slow Cooker liner, sat the onion, ginger ale, and BBQ sauce on the counter – all ready to go.  And speaking of the Reynolds Slow Cooker liner, I highly recommend them.  They make clean up is a breeze!Crock Pot BBQ Pork 3

In the morning, place half of the sliced onions in the bottom of the Crock Pot.  Add the roast, top with the other half of the onions.  Pour in the ginger ale.

Crock Pot BBQ Pulled Pork

Slow roasted tender pork, smothered in sweet BBQ sauce.

  • Prep Time: 30m
  • Cook Time: 12h
  • Total Time: 13h

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds butt pork roast
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 cans, ginger ale
  • 18 ounces BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Place a Reynolds Slow Cooker liner in the Crock Pot. Add 1 sliced onion to the bottom of the Crock Pot. Place roast on top of onions. Top with the other sliced onion. Pour the 2 cans of ginger ale over the roast.
  2. Cover, and cook on low for 12 hours.
  3. Remove roast from Crock Pot and shred. Liquid can be discarded. Onions can be kept and added back into the Crock Pot with the shredded pork.
  4. Stir in the BBQ sauce. Leave Crock Pot on low, and heat until heated through.
  5. Serve on toasted rolls. Top with your favorite cole slaw.
